This talk I should have done a few weeks back. It is about the first ever Roasters Guild of Europe event and the importance of us as an industry to come together and learn. I see the start of this event as an important chapter and a way for us to get better at what we do. Especially from the event, I am remembering Jamie Banwell's (Diedrich supplier in the UK) presentation on roasting. It got me thinking.

The new generation of roasters is starting from a different platform than most roasters did. There is knowledge, events, and opportunities that 5 - 10 years ago was not possible. For me, this is something really exciting, something that will help this industry grow. Sure enough, the market is getting saturated.

Everyone wants to roast coffee. It has never been more difficult to open up a coffee roastery. But the people that choose to do so are not starting from zero. But they need guidance. The experienced generation needs to guide the new one, otherwise, we will end up in a mess of new roasteries that will not be able to sustain them self. Every individual player would benefit from seeing this industry grow.
