Volcan Azul is a truly remarkable coffee estate located in the Alajuela region of Costa Rica and overseen by Don Alejo Castro. The fifth generation of his family to tend to the land, Alejo is an incredibly knowledgeable farmer, and the estate has a rich history which can be clearly traced back to the late 19th century.

The farm produces a vast variety of cultivars and varietals, such as Catuai, Caturra, Obata, Villa Sarchi and Gesha. Alejo continues to propagate new varietals every season, with the objective to continuously experiment and add diversity to his harvest.

This lot of Caturra & Catuai has been evenly washed processed on the estate before shipping directly to us here in Denmark.

We're very happy to offer this coffee as our current Milk Espresso option. It's great to work with yet another coffee from Alejo at Volcan Azul, our main partner farmer when it comes to Costa Rican coffee.


Milk Espresso Roast Brewing Advice:

Use a 1:2.1 brew ratio. With all espresso you must first identify the size of your filter basket - preferably of the brand and variety 'VST 'Ridgeless' - that you are using. For this particular coffee, the optimal dose would be -2g from the basket size, using a 1:2.1 ratio, and aiming for a target TDS of 9.2. Depending on which grinder and set-up you're working with, the result will be varied however our recommended total brew time is still between 26 - 28 seconds brewing this coffee.
