April x Iznik Mavi Cini

Sometimes we come across companies and projects that we believe represent quality in its purest form. We discovered İznik Mavi Çini on the streets of Istanbul and immediately fell in love with their craftsmanship. Their vision is simple: to keep an old craft alive by giving it a place in a modern context. A meeting of tradition, craftsmanship and contemporary life. Together, we have created three iterations of the April Brewer — the first coffee brewer made using quartz — alongside three versions of the April Filter Coffee Mug and a custom espresso cup. Each piece brings together their centuries-old craft with our approach to modern coffee. İznik tile is known in ceramic literature as “the impossible ceramic to produce.” The reason lies in quartz, its primary raw material, which is present throughout every layer of the piece. The process is exceptionally demanding, with a high rate of loss during both shaping and firing. The result is that no two pieces are ever quite the same. Each carries the subtle marks of its making, giving it a character of its own. We see it not simply as a piece of brewing equipment, but as a functional art object.
