Preparing for the World Barista Championship by Mathieu Theis & Matt Winton

Posted by Patrik Rolf Karlsson on

At April, participating in annual coffee competitions is a crucial part of what we do. We strongly believe that competing regularly is the most effective way of pursuing new skills and techniques, whilst simultaneously providing a great medium for self development. With this in mind, we recently reached out to our friends and fellow competitors over at MAME, specialty coffee shop and educational hub based in the beautiful Swiss city of Zurich, for an insight into their successes and motivations for the future. Founded just over two years ago by the 2015 Swiss Barista Champion and current Brewers Cup World Champion Emi Fukahori, in partnership with 2016 and 2018 Swiss Barista Champion Mathieu Theis, MAME represents the culmination of their talents and is an...

Get to know Morten Wennersgaard, Co-Founder of Nordic Approach

Posted by Patrik Rolf Karlsson on

For those that don't know, could you tell us your background in coffee, how did you start? And where have you been before starting Nordic Approach?  I was one of these confused young guys that didn't really know what I wanted to do, or if I wanted to study anything at all. Went to Stockholm to work with disabled people and music when I was 18. I had always been into food and I met some guys in Sweden that inspired me to study cooking. Went home to start a career as a chef. After 3-4 years in kitchens, I decided to study food science and took a bachelor. During those years I continued to work almost full time, most of...

Posted by Patrik Rolf Karlsson on

As most of you that will read this already know by now the World Barista Championship was held in Amsterdam earlier this year. For us, it is one of the highlights of the coffee year, always a great source of inspiration and motivation. I think competitions have that effect on people and it's fair to say that the competitors this year set the bar very, very high. Best of them all and newly crowned World Barista Champion 2018 was Agnieszka Rojewska, Barista Champion of Poland. We here at April want to understand more about her process and what was behind her victory so we asked if she would be interested in doing an interview with us and she said...
